What a Life Coach Does

I meet & talk to many people every day. 🤝 “What should I do with my life?” “I don’t feel like I have a purpose.” These are a few things I often hear during our conversations. I have realized that these people have a fair idea of how they can improve their lives. But most of the time, they find themselves at crossroads. ❌ If this sounds familiar, you will need a life coach's help. A life coach is not a motivational speaker or cheerleader. He counsels & encourages clients through personal & professional challenges. He asks relevant questions that create impact and also guides clients to achieve their ultimate goals in just any area of life like: -Career -Personal Development -Relationships -Nutrition -Divorce -Grief & -Financial Wellness I'll share with you what I do as a life coach. I help clients: ✅ Improve productivity and focus ✅Improve overall work performance ✅Improve self-confidence, self-compassion, and self-esteem ✅Improve communication skills ✅Achieve ...

VISUALISATION TECHNIQUE

I use visualization techniques successfully with my coaching clients when they procrastinate and do not focus on what is next in their life/careers. Brain studies now reveal that thoughts produce the exact mental instructions as actions. So, the brain is getting trained for actual performance during ‘Visualizations.’ It has been found that mental practices can enhance motivation, increase confidence and self-efficacy, and prime your brain for success. How to implement the Visualization technique ü   Close your eyes ü   Get yourself in a positive situation you are going to be in by creating a mental picture of it ü   Engage as many senses as possible ü   Make it as realistic as possible: Who is there? How do you feel? What do you smell, hear, and feel? ü   Now, keep replaying it over and over. Feel and experience yourself doing it correctly repeatedly ü   Perform this practice often. You can even perform it alongside meditation if you ...

OVERCOMING NEGATIVE THOUGHTS

I am sharing my experience with one of my coaching clients who wanted to work on her future career. She cannot decide which route to take, either corporate or research in academia. When we are about to conclude, she will revisit using the word ‘but’ and get confused. I learned in this conversation that it’s not that she cannot make up her mind, but negative thoughts are her barrier. We started working on that and ended up successful.   I am sharing the techniques used to create her awareness about the situation and develop an action plan. Your thoughts will influence your words, which determines your actions. Your actions will define the habits which make up your character. Your character will determine your destiny. Learn to master your thoughts. While unpleasant or undesired ideas are frequent, they can hinder you from enjoying situations, divert your attention away from what is truly important, and drain your vitality. Additionally, they can make you feel worried and ...

Life Coaching VS Therapists

I came across a coaching client keen to work with a life coach to transform herself from the present trauma and grief of a past event. When I started working with her, I didn’t continue but referred her to a therapist and explained why she needed a therapist, not a Life Coach. Therapists analyze their client’s past as a tool for understanding present behaviors. While Life coaches identify and describe current problematic behaviors so the client can work to modify them. Therapists focus on ‘why’ certain behavioral patterns occur, and coaches work on ‘how’ to work toward a goal. I consider myself a wellness professional and, as a life coach, aid clients in improving their relationships, careers, and day-to-day lives.   People turn to Life coaches for help in the following broad symptoms ü   Frequent irritability ü   High levels of stress and/or anxiety ü   Inability to break bad habits ü   Persistent feelings of dissatisfaction at work ü ...

DEVELOP MENTAL STRENGTH TO FACE TURBULENT LIFE

Every day, you will face something that is out of your control. Your mental well-being shapes how you engage with it and how well you come out on the other side. You are more prepared to face uncertainty with inner strength by having good mental well-being. This often means assessing the following: Do you realize your potential? How do you cope with the challenges you face? What do you believe is possible for you right now? Do you  feel a sense of purpose ? Martin Seligman, a pioneer of positive psychology and director of the  Positive Psychology center  at the University of Pennsylvania, defined a model of well-being described by the acronym PERMA.  The  five core elements of well-being  and happiness, incorporate into your behaviors to improve mental health and well-being: P ositive Emotions: Adopt a positive perspective as often as you can. You can learn into more positive emotions by practic...

LIMITING BELIEFS

A limiting belief is a thought or state of mind that you think is the absolute truth and stops you from doing certain things.  Limiting beliefs can change your life, but not always for the better. They create self-awareness that stops you from chasing after your dreams, forming healthy relationships with people, and creating change in any area of your life.  Having primarily negative beliefs puts boundaries and limitations on things in our lives and keeps us within our comfort zones. To overcome limiting beliefs, we first need to learn where they come from. 1.       Family Beliefs: We start developing our core beliefs when we’re young based first on what we learn from our family, whether they transmit these beliefs purposefully or not. 2.       Life Experiences: Any experience you have gives you a feeling to remember. These conclusions that you draw from experiences dictate what you choose to do in the fu...

EXECUTIVE COACHING THEMES

Sometimes, I am invited by a few Business Schools for Guest Lectures in my domain based on my experience to share with younger minds. But I make it a point to do a Group coaching session at the end, for their career and personal development.  Also, In my coaching practice, I am approached by middle and senior-level leaders from various Industries with varied issues for Executive coaching.  With my experience so far, I have come to the direction that there are three basic areas for Executive coaching.   1.       Early Executives (Interns & people Kick starting a career) 2.       Mid-Level Executives (Career Development) 3.       Senior Executives (Leadership Development)   The Focus area for them Early Executives - The coach at this stage needs to focus on sensitizing the coachee to the corporate environment and enable them to adapt to changes and excel in performance ...

CREATE PSYCHOLOGICAL SAFETY IN THE WORK PLACE

Create Psychological Safety in the workplace A lack of Psychological Safety was a component cause of the Chornobyl disaster In 1986, the Chornobyl power plant suffered a major disaster that directly killed 31 people and is estimated to have indirectly killed over 4000. Whilst the plant itself possessed an inherently unsafe design, the culture in Russia at the time did not encourage the raising of concerns or speaking up about mistakes. A fear of authority and the need to please political masters resulted in a fear-driven culture .  The cause of the disaster was in large part due to a lack of psychological safety resulting in operators not speaking up about their concerns Gallup's data reveal that just three in 10 U.S. workers strongly agree that at work, their opinions seem to count. However, by moving that ratio to six in 10 employees, organizations could realize a 27% reduction in turnover, a 40% reduction in safety incidents, and a 12% increase in productivity. Dr...

LEADERS AS A COACH

Leader as a Coach An effective manager-as-coach asks questions instead of providing answers, supports employees instead of judging them, and facilitates their development instead of dictating what must be done. New-age corporates are moving away from traditional command-and-control practices. “The manager’s role, in short,  is becoming that of a coach.”   When leaders embrace the “leader as coach” role, the cascading effects can ignite their teams to take ownership of their work and careers. (HBR)   But making the transition from manager to coach isn’t easy. In fact, executives overwhelmingly feel the most urgent problem all of us face is inspiring leaders to coach employees.   A survey by  Globoforce.com  revealed that 93% of leaders feel they need training on how to effectively do this. (US study)   Shifting a leader’s style from managing workloads to coaching employees takes thoughtful efforts by both the leader and the ...

MAP IS NOT THE TERRITORY

The map is not the territory   The map and territory are metaphors used to illustrate the difference between the actual world and our understanding of the world as we perceive it. We are a part of a world in which many things happen simultaneously. We observe this world through our senses and anything that our senses are not able to grasp, we are not able to observe. Simply because  neurologically   our senses are  limited   and operate only within a bandwidth. It is for this reason that we cannot hear the ultrasonic sounds that bats create. On top of this, our senses are also  influenced by our social and individual conditioning . This is based on our experiences we create certain  generalizations   and certain beliefs and then  delete or distort  our observations to keep them in line with our generalizations. Now with this incomplete & distorted observation, we create an  internal representation of the world ...
